Jupiter real estate: Jupiter is home to many full
and part time residents as it is a popular destination for vacationers.
Jupiter has a variety of housing including family residential neighborhoods,
condominium communities and upscale waterfront communities. Jupiter
is located further out into the Atlantic Ocean, relatively speaking,
than any other point along the Florida coast. Jupiter was named after
the Tie Indians called themselves the Jobe, so the Spanish explorers
named the river running into the Inlet the Jobe River, after the native
tribe. In 1763, when English settled the area, Jobe sounded to them
like the mythological god Jove, or Jupiter. Ever since the town has
been known as Jupiter.
In the 1800's the landmark most associated with Jupiter, the Jupiter
Lighthouse, was built. The Lighthouse stands 105 feet tall atop a
46 ft. hill on the north shore of the Jupiter Inlet. Jupiter's economy
is based on century pine and cypress logging, fishing, pineapple,
flower and citrus farming and more and more lately it is based on
vacationing and tourism.
Jupiter is famous for its beautiful beaches - the Loxahatchee River
and Intracoastal Waterway. Jupiter's cultural life can be enjoyed
at Florida History Center & Museum, and during yearly arts and
entertainment festivals.
